Review-Reviewhan: UnOfficially Yours

Miss Liberal meets Mr. Nice Guy.

Basically that’s the movie all about. For those who claim that this movie is like Friends With Benefits, NO. First, they are not friends. But yes, there's sex but I don’t think we can call that benefits since Mr. Nice Guy is not after the sex.

The movie poster

The story:

Ces (Angel Locsin) met Mackie (John Lloyd Cruz) in a beach then they had one night stand. Cess left  without giving any information about herself except her name. Back in Manila, Mackie moved on, and start his new life by changing his career: from being a dentist to writer (noticed the relation). Little did he know, he will meet Ces in his new job and to add in the coincidence, she was assigned to train him. The attraction between them continues. They sex but they both agreed that there's no obligations.

Malabo na kung malabo, but that's what their hearts has to offer. For Ces, hindi daw kaya ng puso niya, while Mackie is willing to settle for that set-up. That set-up seemed okay for a while but as the day goes by, they became more closer to the point that the suddenly realized they don’t have right to feel that way.

The malabong set-up becomes clear when Mackie delares his love for Ces. But Ces is still firm with her decision not to fall in love with him. Mackie respected her, declaring that he is willing to wait until she is ready to open her heart, Their situation becomes more clearer when Ces open up with Mackie. And this time the audience will witness the most dramatic part of the movie that will make them say, "Okeeyy, another first heartbreak-trauma story again."

I like the movie but not as much as I like My Cactus Heart. Okay the movie is far different because UnOfficially Yours is more mature than My Cactus Heart. But then they are telling the same thing rin naman, Love.

As usual, it is a John Lloyd Cruz' movie. Parang siya si Pierce Brosman while listening to Angel's monologue (And of course, I am not comparing Angel to Meryl Streep, ok?) It's like "Okay, I can feel you, but I  don’t know what to say, though I want to say something."  In this movie you will see a different JL, very far from the stiff, cold and demanding role he played before.  Makikita dito ang super kulit na John Lloyd and  at the same time, super matatawa ka sa kanya kasi kahit wala siyang sinasabing  lines, sa mata pa lang niya alam mo na na may kalokohan siyang binabalak. Fun, fun, fun lang siya.

Meanwhile, Angel improved her acting skills a lot better compared to her films noong nasa kabilang station siya. Though hindi ako masyadong nakiki-symphatized sa role niya because given that your heart was broken into pieces, you were traumatized to love again and insert all the cliché things we often heard why someone is afraid to love. My, move on girl. It's been what? 3 or 5 years ago. And you think engaging in a casual sex will be the best solution for those who are afraid to fall in love and to avoid get hurt again? You're lucky you did not get some disease because of that. Mas masakit yun.

Many people say that super nakakiyak ang movie. Well, for me no. It is a romantic-comedy movie, and I don’t see the point why the past loves of the two character should be so dramatic. Yes, super pilit ang mga drama scenes nina JL and Angel on the Manila Bulletin balcony. Even more on the monologue of Angel.

The movie is not as honest as it should be. There's sex but wala sa kalingkingan ng Angel- Piolo (Love Me Again), Angel- Aga (In The Name of Love) or John Lloyd-Bea (Miss You Like Crazy) love scenes. I bet kaya lang rated-13  ang movie na ito is because may mga mura sa lines. I can even bring my baby sister with me.

There are 3 most defining scene for me in the movie are the following:

  1. The hallway scene. JL, I love you talaga. Super sweet.
  2. The mom-daughter scene of Techie Agbayani and Angel. Girl talk.
  3. The last scene except the last 5 minutes before the credits. Medyo corny pero keri na.

In short, the movie is so cheesy. The only consolation here is that it is a John Lloyd film. We don’t see JL doing this cheesy thing often so keri na rin. Infairness ah, ang taba niya dito. Pero hindi naman niya kailangan ng perfect body para tilian.

On the lighter side, infairness hindi na nakakabingi ang BGM like in No Other Woman, lalo na in "sex scenes" kuno. Walang "bed" (not the kama) kapag nagsasalita ang mga characters to add kuno sa "drama" or "kilig".

Hindi naman talaga nakakapanghinayang na I watched this movie in cinema because I bet super cut ito kapag sa Cinema One ko pa hinintay ito.
